S15: E283 Holiday Gift Guide

We are only a few weeks away from Christmas and it’s likely that you’re spending some time online or in-person shopping for gifts. I actually went to the mall with my girls a week or so ago and have vowed to do all the rest of my shopping online because the mall was in.sane.  Though I’ll likely end up at stores again before December 25, but I’m doing my best not to.  Too many people. Too much stimulation with lights, sound, and sales. Bah humbug… I know I sound like Scrooge or the Grinch.  I love getting presents for my people!  But sometimes it all becomes a bit much and I struggle to know exactly what to get them.

My hope is that this episode might spark some ideas for you and help simplify your gift giving! I’ve divided this episode into two sections: music teacher favorites and personal favorites. So let’s get to it:

Music Teacher Favorites:

  1. F-Flat Gift Cards: If you’ve been around me for a while you know that F-Flat Books is one of my favorite places to find great teacher resources.  Unsure of exactly what a music teacher friend might like?  An F-Flat Gift Card is perfect!!  Add $5-$100.  AND there are quite a few sales throughout the year that friends can use the gift card towards so it’s a great deal to help teacher friends find something that will be useful for them!

  1. Musically Minted: I was so excited to meet Claire at the AOSA Conference in November. She hand-draws ALL of the art work and designs.  So many fabulous items from t-shirts to sweatshirts, tumblers, stickers, keychains… so many options!

  2. Chad Lawson: One of my all-time favorite pianists! If you have a music teacher friend who loves to find new piano pieces (some are quite challenging, but most are just plain beautiful!) consider the gift of sheet music:

  3. And the final music teacher favorite I’d love for you to check out is my shop. Head to www.jessicagrant.org for 25% off everything in the ship from now through January 26!  Code is DECEMBER25.

Personal Favorites:

  1. Michael Storrings Puzzles!!  If you love puzzles, these are the ones I love. Sturdy pieces, not overly hard or simple, and fun scenery.

  2. Magnolia Table Cookbooks: Joanna Gaines is always a winner and her recipes are so good. Three book options with recipes that use pretty traditional ingredients that are easy to find.  Great for the friend who loves to cook!

  3. JCrew Factory Crewneck Sweater in Soft Yarn: So this might be a gift you get yourself (I’ve gotten two of them in the past few weeks). I ordered one, loved it so much that I went online and got another one in a different color. Easy to dress up with earrings and a necklace. Comfortable to teach in, but not so thick that you burn up.

  4. Kendra Scott earrings: There have been a variety of sales happening at Kendra Scott - Buy 2 for $70, 25% off purchase, free $65 blanket with $100 purchase. I love their earrings so much, but I like to get them on sale.  The earrings are sturdy, but not too heavy. I love the classic hoops.

  5. James Method Verse Mapping Journal: If you have a friend who wants to grow in their faith in Jesus, this is an amazing gift.  It’s one of my favorite ways to grow in my faith and learn more about specific bible verses.

  6. Books!  One of my favorite gifts to give someone else is a book that they’ve been wanting for a while.  I ask friends for a list of 2-3 books that they’d like to get and choose one from the list to get them.  Then I know that they want the book!  And they don’t know which book I’m getting them.

What are some of your teacher favorite gifts?  Or personal favorite gifts?  Share with me on Instagram @howtoteachmusicwithjessica.  I’d love to hear from you!
